Tennessee Scholars Requirements

 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Graduates

The Tennessee Scholars program is a recognition program for students.  To become a Tennessee Scholar students must complete a demanding high school curriculum that emphasizes "on level" and above courses in mathematics, science, social studies, language arts (English and foreign language), and computer literacy. The program also stresses the importance of attendance and dependability. In addition to meeting all State Board of Education graduation requirements, Tennessee Scholars must complete the following course requirements and additional expectations in order to graduate as a Tennessee Scholar.  Tennessee Scholars Graduates are required to meet all of the requirements for the new Tennessee Diploma Path for graduation and the additional requirements listed below:

  • 4 credits of English
  • 4 credits of Math( Algebra I and II, Geometry, and a higher math) Bridge/Sails math will not count toward TN Scholars requirements (at least one math credit each year)
  • 3 credits of  Lab Science including Biology and Chemistry and one other Lab Science (Physical Science, Biology II, or Physics)
  • 2 Career Technical Credits (can be part of a CTE elective focus group) or 2 Dual Enrollment credits
  • 3 credits of Social Studies (U.S. History, World History or Geography, and U.S. Government and Economics)
  • 2 credits of Foreign Language (in the same language)
  • 1 credit of Fine Art
  • 1 credit of Wellness
  • .5 credit of  Physical Education
  • .5 credit of Personal Finance  

Additional Requirements:

  • 80 hours of Community Service
  • Overall "C" average
  • 95% attendance rate
  • No out-of-school suspensions

*Tennessee Scholars wear a metal and are recognized at graduation and have a Tennessee Scholars stamp placed on their transcript.
